Tortoĺ a very old village, famous
for cork and vases, is the co-capital of the Province of Ogliastra with
Lanusei. |

|
Tortoĺ
is situated on the eastern coast of Sardinia. Its port Arbatax and an

is Girasole and Lotzorai, to the west Villagrande Strisaili and Ilbono, and
to the south Barisardo. To the east of the town is the Mediterrenean Sea. |

Sardinia, thanks
to its strategic position in the Mediterranean Sea, has always
been
a particular thought after by colonizers, which followed during its history.
Tortoĺ was taken by the Carthaginians, Romans,
Vandals, Unayyad and Spanish. It was part of the kingdom of
Cagliari
during the 12th century. The town was the head of the County of Quirra.
